ABOUT MY WORK

My artworks are a reflection of my preoccupations with colour and informal symbolism. Through figurative and landscape art, I aim to capture the essence of emotions, relationships, and the passage of time. I use texture and multiple layers of oil paint glazes to slowly build up depth and luminosity, infusing the viewer with a sense of quiet contemplation and connection to the natural world.

I select subject matter that holds personal significance, with threads, leaves and folds of fabrics representing thoughts and emotions, animals symbolizing friends and loved ones, beaches marking the space between the conscious world and unconsciousness, and stars and circles implying history, chronology, and time. My inspiration comes from the beauty and complexity of the world around me, as well as the thoughts and emotions that I seek to convey through my art.

Through my art, I hope to invite viewers to pause, reflect, and find moments of quiet beauty and meaning in their own lives. I am drawn to creating scenes that foster a sense of connection, where nature and human experience intersect.

BACKGROUND

I’ve always had a passion for art, nurtured from a young age in West London, where encouraging teachers helped me explore my creativity. My love for colour and light grew as I experienced different environments, especially when my family moved to Western Australia at the age of fifteen. The stunning landscapes and vibrant hues further inspired my artistic journey.

After returning to London, I completed my university studies and started a family. I worked in the car rental industry, and while art became a rewarding hobby during that time, it took a back seat to the responsibilities of daily life.

A few years ago, I faced a significant health challenge from encephalitis, which left me needing to relearn basic skills like breathing, talking, eating and writing, Walking is still a work in progress.. Art has become a comforting outlet during my recovery, helping me regain both my coordination and a sense of normalcy.

Now, I live in North Devon, surrounded by inspiring skies and coastal views. I primarily work with oil paints, but I also enjoy using pastels and watercolour inks. I appreciate the slow drying time of oils, which allows me to explore different textures. Often, I incorporate metal leaf and layered glazes to add depth and luminosity to my work, although capturing those details in photographs can be tricky.
