Murmur
Oil painting on canvas 28 x 26in (71 x 66 x 2cm)
The starling is an often underrated but beautiful bird. Individually the iridescence of their feathers and quiet intelligence makes them a beguiling creature. Their sociable and cooperative nature within their flocks gives rise to magnificent aerial murmurations. Perhaps this helps to explain why starlings have come to symbolise family and emotional bonds. If a flock of starlings are called a murmuration, then a solitary bird could be a murmur?
Threads of vibrant hues and undulating fabric enveloping figures are reoccurring motifs in my artwork. I strive to use colour to express the figure's innermost feelings and emotions.
